What does your job search funnel look like?

Most job seekers can tell you how many places they applied. Almost nobody can tell you their reply rate. Put in rough numbers and see the shape of your search.

Enter your numbers above to see your funnel.

Why the shape matters more than the count

A search that stalls at applications is a resume-and-targeting problem. One that stalls after replies is an interview problem. They need opposite fixes, and you can't tell which you have without the funnel. Hey Vitae builds it from your inbox as you go — no spreadsheet, no guessing.

Job search funnel questions

  • What is a job search funnel?

It's the shape of your search: how many applications turned into replies, how many replies turned into interviews, and how many interviews turned into offers. Each stage is smaller than the one before it, and where it narrows sharply is where your effort is going missing.

  • Do rejections count as replies?

Yes. A rejection is a reply — someone read your application and responded. Counting only the good news makes your reply rate look far worse than it is, and hides the real problem. That's why the field here says 'Replies - Good & Bad'.

  • What's a good reply rate?

There isn't an honest universal number — it swings wildly by role, seniority, industry, location and whether you applied cold or through a referral. The useful comparison is against your own funnel over time: if you change your resume or targeting, does the reply rate move?

  • My funnel stalls at applications. What does that mean?

Lots of applications and very few replies points at targeting or the resume itself — you're reaching the wrong roles, or the right ones aren't seeing a match. Applying harder rarely fixes it; changing what you send, or which roles you send it to, usually does.

  • My funnel stalls after interviews. What does that mean?

If you get interviews but not offers, the application side is working — your resume and targeting are landing. The gap is in the room: narrative, examples, or how you handle specific question types. That needs practice, not more applications.
