What's actually happening
Roles get found, get half-started, and get lost — in a tab, in an inbox, in the gap between meaning to and remembering to. That isn't disorganization as a character trait; it's what happens to any search run out of memory once it passes about a dozen roles. Nothing here needs more effort. It needs one place to look.
This week
- 1
Make one list today
Every role you've applied to or meant to, in one place. It will take twenty minutes and it is the highest-value twenty minutes in this whole page.
- 2
Write the next action beside each one
Not a status — an action. “Follow up Thursday”, not “applied”. A list of statuses is something to read; a list of actions is something to do.
- 3
Close the dead ones
Anything over six weeks with no reply is closed. Say so, on the list. The open ones are much easier to see once the dead ones aren't in the way.
Where to start
This is the one result where the honest answer isn't a free tool — a list you actually keep is the thing the free tools can't be.
